Countries
The following are the countries that you will encounter in Ivalice:
The Empire of Archadia
The Empire of Archadia lies to the north of Ivalice. It was once a wealthy land, though with the decline of Humes came the decline of prosperity. However, it still remains the largest of the countries.
Archadia is the long-standing enemy of the southern empire, Rozarria. Both countries had held roughly 700 years of peace before they clashed in the Esper War 300 years ago.
Archadia's vast borders mean that it hosts much different climates in the north and south of the country.
Archades: The capital, Archades, is a sprawling mass of tall buildings and multiple-level terraces, that once ran on a class system, though this has been long forgotten. The great Imperial Palace towers above everything else in sight; this is where the Emperor and his Senate operate, and it is rare for the common people to see either.
The Archadian army are primarily concerned with guarding this palace, though marshal law is in place and despite internal corruption, the main streets of the city itself are relatively free from crime... It's only once the outskirts are reached that things become more risky.
Archades sits towards the north, however, and experiences mild summers and frigid winters; snowstorms during the later seasons are very common in the capital.
Balfonheim: A gritty port town on the east coast of Archadia. Once a safe haven for pirates, mercenaries have overrun the town and rubbed shoulders with the pirates remaining there. Asides from the mercenaries, it is unpoliced and considered a rather dangerous location.
Resting where the warm airs from the deserts meet the cooler draughts from the north, the town experiences a lot of rain all year round.
Kingdom of Dalmasca
The Kingdom of Dalmasca lies between Archadia to the north and Rozarria to the south. In many ways it has acted as a buffer state between the two empires several times throughout history.
A country that is primarily desert, Dalmasca has had little chance to flourish economically on the same level as Archadia or Rozarria. The inhabitants are mostly peasant folk, though there is a strong mercenary population.
Rabanastre: The capital of Rabanastre is a high-walled city that rests in the centre of the kingdom. There are many underground passages beneath the city, and the Royal Palace, where the King and his council reside, has dungeons in said areas. The army is very small and inept, and crime is a problem, though there is a strong mercenary population that often take matters into their own hands.
Rabanastre is warm all year round, though it often experiences blazing heat during the day and freezing temperatures at night.
Empire of Rozarria
The southern empire, lying to the immediate south-west of Dalmasca. Rozarria once prospered on great oil wealth, though with the decline of Humes, this trade has long since been abandoned. Rozarria is a vast empire, a close second in size to its political enemy, Archadia. The deserts in the north are baking hot, whilst the southern reaches are more temperate.
Ozaeta: A once architecturally beautiful city perched on the edge of a colossal oasis, Ozaeta is now the least populous of Ivalice's capital cities. Asides from the Emperor, his army and a handful of common people, there aren't many living here. The smallest branch of mercenaries operates here; they are often too busy with keeping the monsters at bay to be concerned with anything else, though.

Former Countries
Landis: The Republic of Landis was absorbed by Archadia over a thousand years ago. The remains of the spiral-shaped capital Moelfre are to the south-west of Archades.
Nabradia: The Kingdom of Nabradia fell also to Archadia over a thousand years ago. Archadia used a powerful magick weapon - nethicite - to obliterate the capital of Nabudis. North of the Dalmasca-Archadia border, deadlands that were once the city can be found if the northern path is strayed from.
